na jaane kyun.....ye jaanu na!!

kuch alag si baat thi
ab ek naya sa ehsaas hai
na jaane kyun
ye jaanu na

chahe chhoti si mulakat thi..

kasak ab bhi saath hai
na jaane kyun
ye jaanu na

bhutton ke dano me
ek gazab mithaas thi

Jhoomo Re.....Kailasa Aala Re

It is tough building upon your success. Most of us tumble, some are able to match their previous feat, but only few take it to another level.

After huge success of album 'Kailasa' last year, band Kailasa which comprises of Kailash Kher along with Paresh Kamath and Naresh Kamath is back with latest release 'Kailasa Jhoomo Re'. I have been listening to the album for more than 3 weeks now, and am now fully equipped to write a review; in fact I am compelled to do so.

There are nine tracks in the album. I am listing them in the order of my liking. All nine tracks are written and sung by Kailash Kher.

1) Saiyyan
This just shows how easily Kailash Kher can turn a simple tune into a masterpiece with his unique vocals. This gives you feeling of "Teri Deewaani" track from their last album.

2) Babam Bam
This track is so rich in orchestration that you cannot stop saying "Wow". Many people would object for keeping it in 2nd place ahead of "Chhap Tilak" and "Tere Naina" but I strongly think this deserves this place by sheer magic the song create and take you back to mythological era. This is like a cult song.

3) Chhap Tilak
A beautifully written song inspired by Khusru's word. Sound of rain and the orchestra sound given from mouth, gels very well with the track and create a great visualization. Who say's you cannot see a song? Full marks again.

4) Tere Naina
This one is a slow melodious track. It is richly backed by chorus and sound of flute, tabla and guitar but little subtle this time. Similar to "Saiyaan" and "Chhap Tilak" this one has a Sufi flavor yet it is a different and fresh song altogether. A track needs to be heard again and again.

5) Joban Chalke
Once the song starts you get feeling that it is a repeat of Babam Bam, but Kailasa surprises you again with an altogether different song. This one takes you to Rajasthan. The folk element has been kept craft-fully and Kailash Kher did full justice on the vocal front.

6) Jhoomo Re
The title track of the album is first that make you realize that it is infact a pop album and Kailasa is not just about Sufi music. Like "Tere Naina" again song has rich chorus and guitar used along entire length and you feel like dancing. It lives up its title.

7.5) Tu meri Jaan Hai
This one is more of a filmy track which is easy on ear. It is not very special but I guess listening to so much Bollywood music made me bias to make it tie a place with "Daulat Shaurat"

7.5) Daulat Shaurat
The song stands out more for the prelude and its music even though the lyrics are also penned down thoughtfully.

9) Yaar Sajan
This is the only song in the album that I can do away with. But there is nothing wrong in the song. On hearing it for 3-4 times I seems to like it.

So, is this one better than first?
Well debatable, with this one Kailasa has extended himself from his Sufi image to provide energetic tracks in addition to soulful numbers. The album contains folk music with urban and contemporary touch that adds freshness and a vibrant appeal to every song. But if you are out and out Sufi fan then “Teri Deewani” is better.

Overall, IMHO Kailasa has done it again and this one is a notch above first. The second album by this band of three is really rocking and has done full justice to all the expectations built after their first album "Teri Deewani". Go grab your copy and do tell me how you feel about it.

My extra 2 cents - try listening the album in the reverse order of this list and you will really enjoy I promise.

PS: my birthday is coming in one week so all those who know me in person. You have just got one more idea for the perfect gift for me.

sunday ki woh dopahar ....

woh AP bhawan ke spicey khane ko shi-shi karke khaana
uska phone par jhallana, fir muskurana, fir has kar batana

woh garm dopahri me, CP ka chakkar lagaana
poonch kar logo se rasta, fir se bhool jaana

daana chogte kabootaro, ko bhaag kar udhaana
dekh kar logo ki harkatain, silly si baatain banana

ice-cream ke cone se, tapakti choco-chips ka chaatna
fir apni masoom ankahi-adhoori si love story usko batana

tez gaadi chalaana, koshish thi usko daraaana
fir saame se aata truck dekhkar, khud hi dar jaana

uska mujhko fir se milne ke liye majboor karna
woh mera sharmaana, muskurana aur fir itraana

khoobsoorat, june ke dopar thi woh
nahin chaoonga main, usse bhool jaana

main koi shayar nahin hoon doston
yeh to hai bas mera ek chota sa afsaana

Movies:: Trilogies are raining in May '07

Spiderman -3 going to be released in India with the world wide release is good news but this time it will be dubbed in the local language Bhojpuri as well. I think that is even better news. It will be a hilarious affair that is for sure, especially if they add dialogues with local essence rather than plain translation something like

“Makad Manav, humka bachaiba humka bachaiba”

“Chod de eeeka $#%#%#@, Hum makad manav ba, udh kar aayab aur tohar tetwa dabaa deb“

Those of you who have not seen Spiderman in Punjabi yet, it is a must watch and available at youtube. It has a really funny dialogue between Harry (Peter’s friend) and his father Norman Osborn

“Driver gaddi aetthei rok leva, yaar aage naah leke jaayi”
“Kyun??”

“Main nahin chaida mere dostaan vich badi gaadi da rob pave“
“Tanga le lava gaddi bech ke, jade school te tenu daaakhil karaya odhe fail haua“
“Main taa padhta hi hai paayi, hor me kedaa school de bahar churan bechda”

“Sharam kyun nahin aandi tenu?”
“Kaadi sharam karaa, main yahan nanga baithaa”

This time Spidey would be in sexy, shiny jet-black suit that comes with enhanced powers. The story line has him struggle to control his newly found powers and dark, vengeful side of his personality taking the control over him. Of course, he saves the world again from Sandman and Venom in the process and there are some great stunt/animation affects that the film is boasting. Spiderman -3 is slotted to release on 4th of May in India along with the US release. But this is not the only trilogy I am waiting for.

“Shrek The Third” is the filaaaam that is also on my list of Must Watch. It looks great from the teasers released so far. The animations are great as always and do expect a funny rib-tickling movie. The trilogy has the Donkey and Puss In Boots for a new quest which means lotsa funny witty one-liners. Story line revolves around Shrek sets out on quest to bring back the rightful heir to the throne, Fiona's rebellious cousin Artie. As Shrek, Donkey and Puss work on changing Artie from a royal pain in the ass you-know-what into a future king, Fiona and her band of princesses must stop Prince Charming who attacked on kingdom of Far-far-Away to ensure there will be a kingdom left to rule.

With Pirates of Caribbean trilogy “At World's End” also coming out in May it would be going to be a great month for a movie freak chokra like me. The storyline continues from the ending of the part-II Dead Man’s Chest and would see Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), Elizabeth Swann (beautiful Keira Knightley) allied with Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) in a desperate quest to free Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) from his mind-bending trap in Davy Jones’ locker – while the terrifying ghost ship, The Flying Dutchman and Davy Jones, under the control of the East India Trading Company, wreaks havoc across the Seven Seas. Movies boast of even larger stunts than part II which were anyways larger than part I, but the real strength of POC movies is the Jack Sparrow and his witty lines like “Honestly speaking I am a dishonest man, Ladies”. Hoping so see him at his best this time.

I am going to watch them all, but which one of these is on your must-watch list?

When was the last time...

you wandered through muddy paths, have your feet soaked in running water from borewell and watched the perfect sunset on background of the shiny, golden wheat fields with constant chirping of peacocks in background completing the perfect scenic picture. In short, when was the last time you visited an authentic village. I had a trip to village last weekend. When others were celebrating Good Friday, I was on my trip down to memory lanes. No matter how many time I go to my village it never stops giving me surpises and I cannot stop myself relating to the childhood days spent here.

I went to meet my MausiJee(mother’s sister) who stays around 80-85 kms from my abode. Very much excited we started in the early morning so that we can reach there in time to catch the morning meal. And the slow & sensible driver like me accomplished this daunting task with ease in an hour. Now there is a pukka concrete road which means no more clouds of dust when you drive and no more small children running after your car. We reached around 8AM and unlike our colonies the streets were full of life even at this ungodly hour.

After the staple diet of freshly skimmed buttermilk and aaloo paranthas, my nephews & nieces (6 in exact number) from 2 cousin brothers get hold of me and we started playing poshampa-poshampa (those from other state/country/planet, this is a game in which 2 person hold hands and others need to form a line and pass through them avoiding to get caught). After 2-3 rounds I was exhausted and just when I was trying to escape without anyone notice and I heard “Chachu, once more”. Problem with kids is that somehow all these small shaktimaans never get tired and their just-once-more stops only when other person chokes and cries foul “heart attack, heart attack”

I was ready to hit the fields fresh from my sleep. On my way, children were playing cricket, I remember my days when we cousins used to play cricket and tried hard to make Sachin out of Kaifs from local kids so that our team got complete. There is no such need today; everyone was Sachin in his own. I decided to watch the game for a little more time and to my surprise they were discussing how boring are the Super Eights now with Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, Sri Lanka already certain for semi-finals. Of course Bangladesh had something else on their mind; they beat South Africa that night.

Watching the scenic sunset over golden wheat fields just 15 days away from harvest was something out of the world experience. Neither words nor the photograph* on left can describe this in its true splendor. I went out again to prowl on the streets, after the high-in-saturated-fats dinner and routine story telling to kids, while other members were busy catching the not-to-be-missed-suspense in saas-bahu opera. The streets were empty and you could see few people holding radio sets in their hand listening to FM, some other older ones listening to news. Jee haan, Bhaiyon aur (bhaiyon ki) Baheno, I still remember the excitement we used to have for the Colgate Cibaca Geet Mala hosted by veteran anchor AMEEN SAYANI and the full circle of kids-young-n-old around the radio set.

Of course not every thing is perfect, the battle with the mosquitoes still have its marks on my forehead even when I was declared victorious unanimously. But the peaceful and serene days spent there will have their euphoria for some more time to come, at least till my rafting trip to Rishikesh at the end of this month. Till the time I return safely from the rafting pray for me !!

photograph* - The pics are taken from my mobile camera under low light condition. What a great combo to take great pics, Isn't it??

Main bhi gana gaaaaaaaaa sakta hoon !!

Lady One:: Areee behna sunoo to yeh kaun jor jor se gaa raha hai, itna besooooooooora

Lady Two::
Haan!! main jaanti hoon ki yeh kaun gaaane ki koshish kar raha hai.

Lady One
is our neighbour living in building accross the road. Lady Two is my helpless mom.

LO:: KAUN??

LT:: Mere bete ko aise daure padte hai, kabhi kabhi.......state gets to abnormal when he is near water in a close claustrophobic place.

I was in bathroom doing the routine work of cleaning myself to make me at least some what presentable. But, why people don't understand that singing makes bathing less torturous.

LO:: Behna, kisi acche doctor ko kyun nahin dikhaate

LT:: Ek to dikhaya tha, uske kaaan ke parde faad diye isne.

Lady Two went inside her home in fury.

LO:: (on top of her voice) Ajeeeeeee sunte ho

HASH(short for her ajee sunte ho) :: haan jabse shaadi hui hai, wahi to kar raha hoon

LO:: Hume ghar change karna hai, property dealer ko phone lagao

HASH:: (frustrated, beating his head) Bhagyawaaan, ab kya hua

LO:: Woh saamne jo rehta hai na Sharma ji ka ladka

HASH:: (Boiling like egg) Kya phir se cheda usne tumhe??...ruko main bhi usko ched kar aata hoon.

LO:: Nahin.........(with a disgust as well as shyness) Kitne din ho gaye, aajkal to dhang se dekhta bhi nahin

HASH:: toh phir

LO:: (throwing tantrums) nahin bol diya to bol diya, bas ab to aaj hi ghar change karna hai mujhe

HASH::
(taking the cotton buds out of his ears and handing it to her) Yeh lo, shant ho jao.....jo cheej 50 rupye me solve ho sakti hai, uske liye 50 lakh kyun kharchane.

LO:: (smiled) Tuseeee bade smart ho

Of course HASH is a smart guy, till date she does not know that cotton buds was for her and not for me and HASH have them even when I am not around. But this experience made me realize that one should not hurt others for ones own pleasure. I have stopped singing. But I do sing 'n' dance in my appriasal meetings with my manager to show that I am worth something.

Three-Magical-Words Girl !!

I was totally exhausted with the trekking. My left leg was showing the toe* to my mouth for eating the junk and my mouth was enjoying its act done few hours ago. Not at all ashamed, rather the tongue (accomplice in crime) was also delighted I would say. So, finally the left leg gave up and the mind decided to take a rest, eyes wandered to find an empty bench. Luckily, it was just right there, well actually just 20-30 steps away that felt like 20-30 miles.

A girl was sitting right across me. She was wearing a white salwar and green kameez with a black shawl wrapped around. Could not see her face, it was almost perfectly hidden with the black shawl and only body part visible was "her beautiful beady eyes". My eyes which were gloomy moments ago, were dilated, tongue which was delighted is now speechless and heart almost had 2 minor heart attack (don't worry I have them pretty regularly).

She was also looking at me. There was some magic in her eyes which made me feel connected. Idea seems insane to a purposeful-confident-directed-integrated-sensible insaan like me but I was seriously thinking going up to her and says those three magical words to a complete stranger. The mind was doing all the probability calculations of a what-the-hell-do-u-think-of-you kind of reply. And it came up with an pessimistic figure of 99.9999% chance of her saying that. Mathematically there is a chance of 0.0001% but my not-so-good-at-mathematics heart read only the italic part of the report i.e. there-is-a-chance.

Only problem was that legs were enjoying their newly found rock-star status symbol and were refusing to go up to her even when the distance was mere 5 steps. After much cajoling and a promise of having a pedicure and massage afterwards they finally took those 5 steps. Here I was, standing in front of the lovely lady ready to say those three magical words. Face was worried for a possible (almost inevitable) outcome of being fiercely slapped. With heart beating fast, eyes looking southwards, fingers crossed I went to close to her and said it slowly with all sincerity of my heart.

Surprise, Surprise Surprise !!!
To my utmost surprise she also reciprocated and said "Jai Mata Di"

showing the toe*:: Phrase is from Sienfeld season one script. Showing the toe is more humiliating than showing a finger. I do not understand. Someone picks an arbitrary finger and shows it to you and you feel bad about it. It is just a finger. What does it mean? Why should I feel bad about it? I would feel worse if someone shows me the toe. Because it is not easy to show the toe. You got to have your shoe off, socks off, raise your leg and show it to other saying "Look at the toe buddy ". Now that's really insulting, isn't it?
